Google Lively, A New 3d World

Lively is a virtual world created by google. Its aim to make the social web more interactive. After downloading the small software users can create their own 3D lively area and embed it inside their blog or other web presence. This is going to be so cool. Its Still Beta, but this could be the next big hop for Google. I didn't even expect them to release something like this. Will they be able to crush Second Life? Only time will tell. I could already see areas created with sexual content ( oh that was so fast). Sigingin is super easy if you have google account. Download the small software and double click , use your Google login. I started creating my avatar, steps were very simple and straight forward. I really liked the interface. Google Lively, Lets join the next big thing.

Spielbergs Social Network ,Ghost Town

This network is mainly for people who want to share their experiences in paranormal & extraterrestrial activities like ghosts & UFO's. Steven Spielberg always loved to create stories related to this subjects, some of his famous movies are The Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Casper (1995), Men in Black (1997), The Haunting (1999), War of the Worlds (2005) and the upcoming Interstellar (2009). He claims to have some paranormal experiences himself( seeing his dead relative many times) which made him to create this website.A team in Los Angeles is working to launch it in the next few months. This web site could be really fun,a team is working to launch it in the next few months.Ghost Town, we are waiting!

Watch Wikipedia & Flickr in real-time

I found two websites which are really creative. Both of them are based on the same idea of allowing people to see what’s being added to Wikipedia and Flickr in real-time. It can also detect the location of the person did the edit. They have achieved this by detecting the IP address of the person who did the edit and showing its location on Google maps. I watched someone in Japan editing a document about Pakistan, and then someone else in UK was editing something about Superman, while another person in UK was editing something related to Irish Americans. You can watch it whole day; specially the Flickr version which shows different photos from different parts of the world as its being added. Just have a look by clicking on this two links.

Lets Office Online

Web based office suits are becoming famous these days, I think this will be the future of computing, using web based applications. There are many advantages, like easy to access, no installation required and ease of use .These are the best web based office applications if you want to get rid of Microsoft office. Most of these applications are free and the interface is quite similar to MS Office.

Zoho-Good application if you want something which exactly resembles Microsoft word, most of the icons and the interface looks just like office.

Think Free- Free but not very user friendly, i hated the pop-up windows. Some actions are not straight forward ,like when you want to open a new document it keeps asking about interface options, bit annoying. You have to install Java Runtime Environment for this application to work.

Google Docs-this is free to use, the best way to share documents, diffrent users can edit the same document at the same time.

BuzzWord- If you want to use the coolest word application in the internet, this is the one. Everything is built using flash but very easy to use, most of the icons are quite self explanatory. Docable interface gives a simple looks which makes it less complicated.

Total population, India & China Exploding!

Human Poverty, India? my God......

GDP Wealth, America,Japan too Fat, pump some to Africa please!

America is the biggest polluter, but why do I see pollution in china when ever I watch CNN?

Violent Deaths, Sri Lanka getting bigger?

If you want to see some more informative maps go to world mapper website. There are hundreds of maps available.

Prevent Blog plagiarism (what to do when some one copy your blog)

Blogger are prone to creativity thefts more than any other medium, because it’s just a work of copy paste. How to prevent plagiarism? How do we respond if we find some one copy our stuff? There are many ways that you can prevent plagiarism.

Steps you can take to prevent plagiarism

  1. Place a plagiarism banner on your website. You can use creative commons license to license your work, you’ll have the flexibility of creating your own license based on your choices, like on my side bar. (http://creativecommons.org/license/)
  2. Page copy protected against web site content infringement by Copyscape
  3. Include copyright notices on each of your pages ( © in HTML).
  1. But first you need to find out if some one copies your stuff. The easiest way to find out if your blog is being copied is to use copyscape (http://www.copyscape.com/), or you can search sentences in your article on Google to find out culprits.

Steps you can take after finding the site which does the plagiarism

  1. Ok lets be polite first, send a polite e-mail to the owner of the blog asking to remove the stuff.
  2. If there is no contact details available use Whois web site to find the contact details of the webmaster (Tel,Address…etc). (http://www.whois.sc/)
  3. Shame the Bastard, expose him.(with help from other bloggers)

Still No response? Let’s be ruthless.

  1. Inform the web hosting service about the plagiarism and request suspension(use the same Whois to find web host)
  2. Notify Google and others to remove the website from its lists (http://www.google.com/dmca.html)
  3. Contact advertisers and try to prevent add revenues.
  4. To prove infringement, you can use the Internet Archive to show that the content is copied from your site at an earlier date than it appeared on the offender.[http://web.archive.org/]
  1. Take legal action (Well if you want to go extreme)

Ok that’s about it, if you find this article useful or if you have more information on this subject a comment is appreciated.

How to backup your blogger blog

If you want to keep a back up of your blog in your computer, there is cool software to do it [only for blogger and still Beta]. Backing up your data is one of the most important things in this digital age, don’t regret later for not spending few minute in doing that. Don’t think your blog is safe with your host, they can change their policies anytime they want, they usually do, remember what happened to yahoo photos. There are other possibilities, you may accidentally delete your blog, some one could steal your password or you may want to host it somewhere else, this is the answer.

First you need DOT Net framework in you computer for this software to work. So download and install .net framework,(.NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package) then go to codeplex blogger back up page to download the backup software, it has a very user friendly interface, quite easy to use(http://www.codeplex.com/bloggerbackup), it took only 5 minute to backup my data, do it today, no regrets tomorrow.

Tired Of Googling? Use Mahalo

I found about this fantastic search engine called Mahalo ,I was impressed after doing a single search, something you should try. This is a human powered search engine, meaning every search result is carefully reviewed by humans to select the best search results. It could be useful since its guaranteed to give the best results. But there is a downside as well ,because It may have difficulties accessing most newly updated web pages. But its a search engine with true human touch.

I would like to add something about Google ,Google has introduced a new tool to its collection. Its called Google Gears. It is an open source browser extension that lets developers create web applications that can run off line.Recently Google has acquired a company called Panoramio a web service which you could use to place your photos on a world map,now Google is using this technology in combination with Google earth, fantastic.Soon we would be needing another search to find services offered by Google itself.Sometimes i wonder if Google is trying to do so many things at once? I remember this Zen saying "A hunter who chases two rabbits catches none",google is after so many.

Yesterday, Main air force base in sri lanka was attacked by LTTE terrorists, using improvised light aircrafts. The significance of this is that they not only attacked but managed to escape safely in those slow moving air crafts.Experts say that these air crafts could be even chased using military helicopters and we did nothing. They were in air for more than 2 hours and there were lots of warnings by people who saw these aircrafts flying law without lights, kind of like pearl harbor attack. How could something like this happens to a military with lots of sophisticated weaponry? This could be negligence or conspiracy, some one should be paying for this utter humiliation of Sri Lankan air force.I don't know what are those big guys in parliament and army does, busy counting money i suppose.

and back to technology..........

Kaneva is a new social network that extends the concept of MySpace into a virtual world. Although you’ve been able to sign up for a 2D profile on Kaneva they recently opened the doors to their 3D world. The idea is that users can create personal profile pages in the 2D space, like MySpace, but also carry out the same personalization to their virtual world apartments.

A new online dictionary and thesaurus called WordSource is being developed. It’s main benefit over sites like Dictionary.com is the fact that the site is very cleanly designed and contains no advertisements. You can also look up a word by simply adding it to the URL (so word.sc/example will pull up the definition of “example”). The site also has a number of social features, allowing users to upload photos that are relevant to the word, add tags, rate words, etc.

Get A Second Life-Its getting better

I'm sure you have heard about this 3D world you can access through internet called Second Life.In that world you can have your own 3d Avatar, chat with people, explore, fly,go shopping and do all sorts of fun stuff. It has even a real currency(Linden dollars) and a real stock market. But previously when you wanted to chat with someone you had to type the words, but no longer, now you can talk with them directly using your head set with a microphone, fine, the life described by movie Matrix is reaching us faster than expected.

when i heard about this world few months ago i was impressed and was determined to try it out even though i had a very slow internet connection. The first time i logged into the world ,i was teleported to an island and had no idea of how to control my character. Finally i learned how to walk and talk to people,so i walked towards nice looking lady and said "Hello" and she replied "How are you nude man",which made me search frantically through the controls of how to dress my character,i had no idea that i was nude all the time, glad it was virtual .
