Biased Media and LTTE Killings
This year is going to be the year of BLOOD. Even a 3rd grade school boy can predict this fact. It started with killing of T. Maheshwaran (Tamil MP of Opposition), it created huge debate among media and politicians. I watched the TV station "S" reporting the whole incident, step by step, wife crying, kids confused and disturbed. It was really sad to see people trying to over come the fact that they have lost some one they loved, brought tears o my eyes. The coverage was exclusive (bit too much I guess), more than half of the allocated time was spent on reporting this story. The news channel was clearly trying point the finger at the government for his death. Then came the assassination of D.M dassanayake(MP of the government), I switched on the TV to watch "S" news expecting an exclusive coverage, this time it was different, bit boring, the news was not designed to create sadness like in T Maheshwaran incident. And it didn’t mention any thing about the suspects, which was clearly a work of LTTE. I could clearly see a difference in reporting the incidents, may be it was just the way I felt. In my opinion both of them were humans, and should not be killed brutally like that. Both of them deserve the same media attention, why make a difference. Then LTTE ambushed and bombed a bus carrying innocent civilians, 27 killed, twice of that injured. I watched news in all channels. The channel in question was not reporting it as it did for the first case, it was clear as day. I didn’t see people crying, wailing, and asking their loved ones to come back. That’s good in one way, I was really sad when I was watching the first incident, almost choked my food. Is it fair to be biased like this, is this the media freedom? I observed similar reactions in some of the blogs, for an example Anandawardana author of a sinhala blog called webalochana was quick in writing a post about killing T . Maheshwaran[I repeat , killing him is totally wrong]. But he never wrote anything about the bus BOMB or the incidents after that(May be he's still writing). I even posted a comment asking him to do that, he couldn’t even post that comment. What’s wrong with these people, can’t they remove their colored glasses and look at the reality.

Very Valid points! Everyone's view of the conflict in Sri Lanka is in one way or the other deluded primarily due to the their source of information. The west is reporting the recent killings of civilians in monaragala as mass chaos in sri lanka after the ending of the CFA, not as a group of LTTE cadres on a murderous rampage.
very funny Because all those killing were done while LTTE was still in CFA......
times eye,
I know you are talking about Sirasa TV
In Sri Lanka they are the most talented media i feel.
But that is our Nation's Unfortunate.
If anyone watch their programs carefully, we can learn that they sell their talent for money.
Ultimately they are the leading pro LTTE media operate in South.
GOSL should ban their NEWS first first.
not News first, News worst
They destroy our culture.
Personally i'm against banning any media.... instead,we can force media not to be biased in other ways
Media freedom is the most impotent thing in Democracy
Agree.
Terrorist can take so called media freedom for their benefit.
Give me an Idea how we can make them unbiased.

i agree with you on the part that sirasa is all about money, though i'm not that informed to comment anything about them being the proLTTE media in the south. But to me, almost all of their programs, SUCK.
Their prime time news bulletins(what they call NEWS FIRST) is their prime means of attacking their opponents. They once had it going with Wimal and then now it's Mervin. I too hate and an utterly disgust about Mervin and most of Wimal's blabbering. But why use a news to such affect? (remember the cartoon character of a king on the bottom left corner when they telecast any news item about Mervin, that's just unacceptable right? Earlier they had an animated character of a chameleon when they telecasted anything that Wimal appeared)
I mean let's face it. If it's NEWS, it has to be NEWS. That is, reporting things as they are. Not deciding something for the spectators. Very ironic since their motto is "WE REPORT, YOU DECIDE". Yeah right!!1
Here is my 2 cents!
1.Who says "Democracy" is RIGHT? Is it because the West says so? I have been in the west for some time now and majority of the people think here that what they think is right is right anywhere in the world. Let it be democracy, Gender issues, Freedom etc. etc. Europeans see Europe as the world, Americans see US as the world, Japs see Japan as the world. We developing countries see the world as the world. (There could always be something better - but I ain't no political scientist)
2.Media Freedoms is most valid if the Media is responsible and and do an honest job, not if they are bias and are harmful to country cum democracy!
I am speaking form my experience being abroad and associating with people from all around the world.

Funny comments Pujith putha. Walge paagagena kegahanava vage.
Next time please think a bit before writing this kind of stupid stuff.
Any private media has right to support anyone they want. That is their freedom. You cannot say anything about that.
Question about the lies the state media Goebbels propagate about present junta government. You can always question that unlike Sirasa, they use public money.
Anika putha, umbata kondakuth ne. That is why you cannot even call Sirasa by its name.
Ane umba vage gonek, bung. Vedak nethnam banis ekak kala nida ganin rubbish liyanne nethuwa.
kigsly thaththe,
If that media has the right to say anything they like....i have the same right to say anything i want in my blog.......I just want to raise the issue of media not being balanced, hats why i didn't want to mention any media by its name...i'm bit responsible in my work....nothing to do with my konda...bye

Kingsly Uncle...
only one thing... Look in to ur own conscience..
if u have one... U'll notice (if u've not already) Times Eye HAS a point...
Definitely, you've got a point! yep. Although the reality seems bitter for King daddy , but it is something they know what they actually do. The wolrd seems very unfair for innocent civilians like these, i still do recall the way that father cried showing his 21 years old daughter's dead body!
Thanks for these voices who has got hearts with something more than 'just thoughts' !
Cheers!timeseye.. Keep your good work up!
