Death might sounds like "MEOW"

This sweet little cat which lives in a US hospital can foresee if some one is going to die according to the doctors & nurses at the hospital. He seems to curl up next to patients who are about to die and refuse to be taken away until the patient passes away. The nurses use his predictions to inform the patient’s relatives beforehand, giving them a chance to be with their loved once in their final hours. Oscar the cat does his own rounds like a doctor to check up on patients, he has been observed to be correct in 25 cases so far. Now that he's famous, patients might be uneasy around him, especially heart attack patients, I can picture the scenario, "MEOW","HOLY SHIT!,GET THIS FUCKING CAT OFF MY ROOM”, the patient drops dead holding his chest, luckily, the facility treats people with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease and other illnesses, most patients are not aware of his presence.Read the full story of the cat who sense death.

I don't think he's supernatural or anything, cats & dogs has keen sense of smell and ability see & hear things we can't.The cat might have developed a way to sense death by the smell or sounds he hear. Many animals managed to survive the tsunami where humans miserably failed. I heard the story of a Sri Lankan boy who saved his life because his pet monkey was calling him madly, which made him climb the tree.

How to meet time travellers

Once I went to the library craving for a book to read, I was inspired by science fictions at that time (even now), mostly reading Arthur C Clerk & Isaac Asimov, The best modern science fiction writers in the world. The library was full of old English books, felt like I was in a museum, I can still remember the smell of old rugged and torn books, I loved it ,then I came across this book .The cover said it was a science fiction, so I took it home and started reading. After reading few chapters I was bit disappointed, the author has taken great effort on explaining about things like nuclear submarines, electricity & light bulbs, which was no big thing at that time. ‘What’s wrong with this guy’ I thought, before moving in to another book, I quickly scanned through the first pages to find out the date of the first publication, it was 1870,and i was astonished. The book was Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea by Jules Verne. Apart from the accurate description of technical details of a nuclear submarine, he explains how crew can work and survive under that immense pressure. After reading the book hastily I was left with a greater mystery, how he come to know of these things clearly ahead of his time? [Predictions of Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea]

Some of his stories predicted moon landings, sky scrapers, flying machines and even traffic jams caused by too many iron horses. In 1863 he wrote Paris in the 20th Century which elaborated skyscrapers of glass and steel, high-speed trains, gas-powered automobiles, calculators, and a worldwide communications network. The book was never published because publisher feared public opinion, and then in 1989 his great grand son found the manuscript and made scientific community shock in awe. His next book From the Earth to the Moon (1865) accurately describe sending a man to moon, this includes the number of people in that mission (3) , the place of the blast off (Florida),shape of the escape pod(see picture) and the place where astronauts descends to earth (south pacific), amazing isn’t it. [Predictions of From the Earth to the Moon]

Apart from being science fictions, his books are always packed with mystery and action; they are fast page turners even today. Around the World in Eighty Days and Mysterious Island are few of them. Was he a time travelers? Once I saw a discovery channel documentary suggesting he could be, may be he met a time traveler, or he could be a person who did immense research before writing because those assumptions are hard to be lucky guesses, we may never know. But one thing I can tell you for sure, Jules Verne made me a science fiction fan, because his books showed me that the only way of experiencing the wonders of the future, is by reading science fictions.

Biggest Carp ever to be caught

This carp weighing staggering 290Lb was caught by a Tai fisherman who was testing his newly build fishing rod. Must have been a big surprise for him ,and for the fish too.I found this strange mythological belief in china, that if a carp can jump over a water fall from belove ,where they believe that a place called dragon gate exists, the carp can turn in to a beautiful dragon.Thank god that this one didn't jump, could have been a huge dragon.

Word of wisdom (හෙවත් හාමුදුරුවනේ ධර්මපුරස්නයක් )

Some times when group of people gather they share funny stories, specially in parties. This is one of the best I heard, that guy repeats this in almost every party & we still enjoy it, best told in my native language Sinhala, so I have a Sinhala translation below for those who can read. If you see some squares, don’t worry, it means you don’t have Sinhala Unicode font.

One day a devoted Buddhist layman who used to visit the temple frequently for dharma talks found that the head monk had gone out for a sermon, so he decided to have a bath in the head monk’s bath room. While he was taking the bath, head monk returned and entered the bath room, unaware of his presence. He was naked, so he quickly grabbed a plastic washbasin which was nearby & covered his private parts. Both were speech less and unable to utter a word. The devote ,thinking of breaking the silence, ’I came here to ask the meaning of a difficult Pali word’ .Since Buddhism is written in a language called Pali, this often happens. ‘What is it my friend?’ the monk asked, ‘what is the meaning of Parachiththa Vijanana Gnanaya?’ The monk thought for a moment & said ‘It’s the ability to read others minds, for an example my friend, you think the base of that washbasin is intact, but its not’.

300,beautiful !

The moment I came home after watching the movie 300 ,I was compelled to share the thought with you. If some one asked me ‘How’s the movie?’ There is only one answer ‘Beautiful‘.300 is about heroism in the face of insurmountable odds. I felt like reading a story book filled with most beautiful pictures, I have never seen a movie with this type of awesome camera angles, every frame of the movie is worth watching and picture perfect. It’s like playing the most expensive video game. The movie explores the bravery of 300 Spartans who fought to death against a huge Persian army; some argues about its historical accuracy, for them ,all I have to say is ‘If you want accuracy watch an encyclopedia’. The movie 300 will bring a new dimension to the industry, that’s for sure, so watch it and be a part of that history. Here are some screen shots.

Captured by men 6 inches tall

These days we don't have much work, to be honest any work at all, students were sent to hotels to do their attachments and we have like one month until they come. Don't think its fun, for me it’s more tiresome than a normal working day, just sitting on your ass for 8 hours a day, not that easy pal. I have started reading a book to kill time, its unabridged version of Gulliver's Travels, I read it when i was very young and hoped this time it would be boring. I was wrong, I was absorbed in to the fantasy world created by Jonathan Swift(1667-1745), I traveled the sea to end up shipwrecked in the city of Lilliputs ,who are only about six inches high, They first captured me and treated me like a prisoner. But eventually I was granted freedom (I had to swear an oath holding right foot form my left hand and placing middle finger of my right hand on the crown of my head, and my thumb on the tip of my right ear) .Later I was favored by the king , specially when I captured fleet of ships which belong to their mortal enemies in the kingdom of Blefuscu, which supports those exiles who break eggs from the smaller end (This is one of the main reason for their disputes).Eventually I was compelled to escape the kingdom of Lilliputs when the King was mislead by some jealous ministers to blind me for treason and using my urine to extinguish a fire erupted in the palace . Currently I’m captured by giants in Brobdingsnag, they can carry me in their pockets. This has given me a chance to see the world in Lilliputs perspective.

A strange thing happened today. I was reading the book in the front office and a guy was fixing the tube lights above me. Normally when I read I get so absorbed, I don’t even hear people talk to me, but I heard something falling down behind me, I looked and found It was a tube light kept on the table. Then I turned back and started reading again, but I was bit uneasy, I looked up and the guy fixing the bulbs smiled at me. Some thing in my head told me to go & sit some where, I complied, two minutes later the guy slipped one tube light and it directly crashed on top of the chair I was sitting before, shredding it in to pieces. I was lucky, is this co-incident? I felt something bad going to happen minutes before, does mind can foresee the future, its called déjà vu right? Did this kind of thing happened to you before?

There is a Treasure,Billion Dollars,Here is the Map,Find it if you can...

There is a treasure in Seychelles, yes a treasure yet to be found. It belongs to a famous pirate Olivier Levasseur ,well known here as La Buse or La Bouche (The Buzzard). He was soaring in the Indian ocean from about 1720 to 1730, looking for ships ,to acquire their wealth. His biggest catch was the Portuguese treasure ship La Vierge du Cap. He hid it in an island in the India Ocean, treasure estimated to worth more than one billion dollars. He was a classic pirate, wore an eye patch to cover his mutilated eye. He was finally captured and hanged at the island Bourbon (today Réunion). When he was about to be hanged he threw a document at the crowd saying ‘Find my treasure, he who may understand it!’ It was a cryptogram, a wisely crafted document which was difficult to decrypt. Several copies of the document were made.

Since then treasure hunter were tirelessly searching for the treasure through out the Indian Ocean. Finally the treasure was traced back to islands of Seychelles, which I happen to live now. People believe that the treasure was buried some where At the Bel Ombre beach on the island Mahé, stones were found, with carvings like: dogs, snakes, tortoises, horses, a ballot box, a figure of a young woman, and the head of a man. But no treasure was found at this location. It could be buried right behind my house; I should do my own excavation when I have time.

There are people still looking for that treasure, treasure worth looking for. The island of Mahe is about 150 sq.km,length about 28 km, but steep mountains and boulders make it a very inaccessible place even today. This made Seychelles a paradise for treasure hunters. Here is a copy of the cryptogram and his alphabet, ‘Find it if you can’.

This is the cryptogram

Buddha Visits China On Rainbow & Stays an Hour

A human-shaped shadow in the middle of a rainbow halo appears on Zushan Mountain after a heavy rainfall in Qinhuangdao, North China’s Heibei Province, July 1, 2007.The vision, which many tourists believed to be the Buddha, stayed for more than an hour.

This could be an entirely natural phenomenon since its a mountainous area, mist could always create different densities in air which could make light refract several times to create Illusions like that, nice picture though.

This is a good example of how miracles were added to some religions, if this happened in medieval times,it would have been written on a religious book as a miracle of their religion , depends on who sees it and which religion they are in, this time its Buddhists, sad thing is Buddha preached never to believe in miracles.

Coco de Mer - Amazing Tree

The sailors who first saw the nut floating in the sea imagined that it resembled a woman's disembodied buttocks.Until the true source of the nut was found, people thought that this nut grows on a mythical tree at the bottom of the sea, which gave its name ,coconut of the sea (coco de mer).I took this picture when i visited its natural habitat in an Island called Praslin.Male flower resembles male sex organ, some people believes this island to be the garden of eden.

Coco de Me Nut, originally uploaded by poojitha.

This plant only found in Seychelles bears the largest seeds of all plants, weighs 15-30 kg.The Coco de mer is a palm endemic to the islands of Praslin and Curieuse in the Seychelles. It grows to 25-34 m tall. The leaves are fan-shaped, 7-10 m long and 4.5 m wide with a 4 m petiole .It has separate male and female plants. The male flowers are catkin-like, up to 1 m long.

Its illegal to export live nuts out of the country but If you are a sri lankan who wants to see this plant up-close ,don't run to a travel agency too book a ticket to Seychelles, just go to Peradeniya Botanical garden in kandy, there is a huge plant there, don't know how it got end up in Sri Lanka but we can be proud that we have a live specimen of this unique tree.
