Cricket World Cup & Air Raids, Both Games Lost !

Yesterday night was a big day for Sri Lankan cricket fans. It was the Cricket world cup finals against Australia. Australians played a brilliant game, bowling and batting was superb, so we lost. Sri Lankans who were in Seychelles gathered to watched the match in big screen, It was fun, could have been more fun if we have won. I think Sri Lankan cricket teams biggest mistake was keeping the bowler Dilhara Fernado amid mounting criticism. He played a bigger role in our defeat. If selectors could have introduced Maharoof instead of Dilhara we could have given a better fight to win the world cup ,but i think Australians deserves the world cup in every way.

*picture army firing at LTTE aircrafts in Colombo

Disappointment of cricket fans in Sri Lanka was doubled when 2 LTTE rebel aircrafts attacked 2 fuel storage facilities in Sri Lankan capital Colombo. According to a friend of mine power was cut in Colombo when they were detected in radar, cricket fans watching cricket in big screen were dispersed by police who were insisting on turning off the screens. Military activated air defense systems and started firing at the sky, but the aircrafts returned back to rebel held jungles safely, damage was minimal it seem, they were not very accurate in dropping the bombs. Terrorist were using improvised light aircrafts for these attack, those aircrafts can't even land without dropping the bombs somewhere, this was their third attack in a row. How cold they attack an army with all those expensive equipments and escape safely? According to my knowledge those planes could be chased even by a helicopter like Mi-24.To me this is a total defense failure.During all these chaos our president was watching world cup finals in West Indies, cheers.

why you will never have a perfect girl friend

I came across this research article about why I will never have a perfect girl friend; it was a long article. I decided to shorten it so that it is easier to read. These stats equally apply to women as well but you may have to make some changes depending on where you live. Anyway, I think this one is very creative because it’s based on true statistics. If you want to visit the longer version with all the mathematical explanations click here..........

Assumptions

1. Girl should be my age plus or minus 2-3 years

2. The girl must be beautiful

3. She must also be reasonably intelligent

Number of people on Earth (in 1998): 5592830000

Who are female: 2941118000

In "developed" countries: 605601000

Currently (in 2000) aged 18 to 25: 65399083 *He was 22 when he wrote this article

Who are beautiful: 1487838

And intelligent: 236053

And not already committed: 118027

And also might like me: 18726

Conclusion

It is here, at a pool of 18726 acceptable females, that we end our statistical analysis. At first glance, a datable population of 18726 may not seem like such a low number, but consider this: assuming I were to go on a blind date with a new girl about my age every week, I would have to date for 3493 weeks before I found one of the 18726. That's very nearly 67 years. As a North American male born in the late 1970s, my life expectancy is probably little more than 70 years, so we can safely say that I will be quite dead before I find the proverbial girl of my dreams. Come to think of it, she'll probably be dead too.

My conclusion

Try to live with what you have because something is better than nothing.

Have you ever?

Have you ever stop by to smell a flower, to enjoy its beauty & delicateness, to enjoy the freshness of the wind sweeping your face, to close your eyes and listen to the birds singing around you, to look at a tree and admire natures craftsmanship, to realize how soothing its to rest under a tree on a sunny day, to gaze at the sky to see if birds were flying, to look at the sea and wonder how blue it is, to realize all of this is free for you to enjoy.

And don’t tell me this world is so boring, unpleasant & you are tired of it.

[special thanks for sending many encouraging emails & comments ,specially Manthi & Elizabethe for suggestions on improving the looks of the website]

Surf Island

Surf Island, originally uploaded by poojitha.

This is a small island near the main island Mahe, mountains in the background covered in green foliage is the main island.Special thing about Seychelles is that sometimes you can be the only one, enjoying a scenery like this.Seychelles is not yet polluted by over tourism, hope it remains like that for many years to come. The reason to post this picture today is that I'm about to go on another trip to some of rarely visited beaches like this soon,So stay tuned for more pictures.

When you visit a place like this you really understand the value of nature & the reason to preserve it.I hear lots of talk about global warming & climate change in the news, global warming could easily destroy an ecology like this in merely few years , beyond any repair.I think George Bush and Tony Blair should be brought to a place like this to explain them about the importance of nature because they keep refusing to take steps against global warming. Its hard to comprehend how politicians can't see anything thing beyond money and war.

Blood Diamond

I watched this movie called Blood Diamond starring Leonardo DiCaprio, stunning, breaks your heart completely. Some Oscar nominated movies are boring, but not this one, there is action for those who loves action, love for those who wants love.A compelling story of the fate of third world countries exploited by rich countries like America. It's unbelievable how Africans are suffering for the well being of few rich guys. When i first watched Titanic i thought Leonardo DiCaprio was just lucky to get Titanic, hoped it would be his first and last and i was wrong, this guy got some talents in acting, got some impressive accents too.If you really want to enjoy the movie, relax and try to live in those characters while watching.

Correct Your Mistakes

Today i met this guy who came to Seychelles from Morishes,He told me that he had studied martial arts for many years & wants to start fresh on Kyokushine Karate. We took the same bus and continued our conversation .He told me this story of one of his friend who went to Japan to obtain his black belt.It was a humorous story with a real message. For those who do not know about belts in karate,to obtain a higher grade like black belt one must show his katas (predefined movement sets) & he must fight with a higher belt to show his abilities in fighting.

So he goes for the final fight to obtain his black belt, decides to attack first and kicks the master, master blocks with his arm and he breaks his leg.So master tells him to practice more and come back when he's really ready to get his black belt.he trains for years and goes back to Japan and this time decides to punch first, master blocks, alas, he breaks his arm.

The moral of this story is that even if you change your tactics ,if you don't correct your mistakes & weaknesses you might be in the same trouble again.

Waterfall, originally uploaded by poojitha.

Today a friend of mine called Asmin, arranged a hike to see the one and only waterfall in Main island of Seychelles. There is one more waterfall in Praslin Island, but small in size. We arrived at the starting point around 11 pm; it was not far from the main road, had to walk around 20 min to reach the waterfall. Then we sat down on the rocks to consume the food we have brought along. Unfortunately, my wife couldn’t join the journey because she was not very well. The natural environment around the waterfall was very well preserved which reminded me of Jurassic period. Some of the plants in Seychelles have hardly changed since The Jurassic age. One dinosaur still lives, the giant tortoise. Waterfall was around 100 ft high, water was flawing on the slanted rock surface making it look snow white. It looks easy to climb the waterfall but that’s not a very wise decision, because if you slip in the middle there are so many rocky steps waiting to break your neck, and it had happened before, some even died. Smart climbers never climb through a waterfall unless it’s unavoidable.

Afterwards we decided to walk to the nearest beach “Port Launay” to have our lunch, on the way back I found this fruit bat hanging in cage but the cage door was open, maybe they keep him as a pet. People in Seychelles eat these bats, some even close to extinction due to this fact. When I poke my camera at the Bat it looked at me wearily to see if I was a possible threat, realizing I was not, it closed its eyes and drifted into its own batty dreams. Have you ever wondered how they urinate? They hang head up using the hooks (claws technically) on their wings. Otherwise it would be really messy.

On the way to the beach I manage to capture these mangroves forest in my camera, mangroves forest helps to clean the water flawing from mainland to sea, it acts as a giant filter between the sea and the main land. Me, Asmin and Feros decided to check on the rocky formation near the beach. So we climbed the rocks and I was lucky enough to capture these birds sitting in line on top of the rock. These rocks are called granatics rocks and they dissolve for millions of years to create beautiful and unique rock formations.

Finally, we decided to come home, I decided to take the bus because others were going on a longer root. Unfortunately, I took the wrong bus and went on an even longer root which made me take two buses to come home. More than enough to end one week break, tomorrow I start working again.

Rainbow

Rainbow, originally uploaded by poojitha.

When i got off the bus in town near the library, I saw a beautiful rainbow lay across the skies; a rainbow never fails to fascinate people. I'm a kind of a guy who asks ‘Did light refract before god made the rainbow?’ anyway, I was able to catch the moment in my camera, came home and was not so impressed with the photograph. So I decided to play around with a photo editing software, bingo, I’ve got this. Believe me this one is far better than the actual photograph. I gave it a kind of painting look, and for me it’s fantastic. Digital photography is not showing some thing you have seen exactly, but showing what you want to show. I thought of not uploading the actual photo, it may lower this artistic expression. It’s amazing what a computer could do for you. I hope people will not loose their actual drawing skills in the future because of the computer.
